Iowa folk musician Greg Brown performs “Say A Little Prayer.” From album “One More Goodnight Kiss.” LYRICS The lights on In the middle of the night There’s a sick little child around Momma said to Poppa “Don’t you worry, I think her fever’s coming down.” [chorus:] Oh yes and I know, it’s just a cold or it’s just the flu But I say a little prayer,I say a little prayer for you I say a little prayer, I say a little prayer for you Let her get better, let her get better soon please. Put Aretha Franklin on Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, turn it up In the middle of the night Cause that’ll do as much good As any medicine To make her feel alright [repeat chorus] Momma been a walkin with ya Poppa been a walkin with ya Walkin up and down the hallway Look out the window See the city lights shining When you’re sick you look so tiny I’m gonna put you in my pocket Go down to where it’s warmer I’m gonna throw you in the ocean And you will turn into a dolphin And when you get all better You will swim back to me [repeat chorus] Let her get better Let her sister get better too Let em get better so I can get better too. I say a little prayer. I say a little prayer. I say a little prayer. I say a little prayer. (c) 1988 Red House.

I like that. I have listened to Dylan for decades and Greg Brown for half as long, but didn’t hear the similarity until now.
I love this song…someone sent me a cool recording of Out in the Country, Daughters and Say a little prayer all mixed together as one song. I am quite sure Greg was a very young man when he did that recording. My little 11 and 8 year old love Greg Brown and they really love his Angel poop song.
overlooked and underappreciated is right! He’s quite amazing. This is def. one of my favorites. There are very few covers of his music on the internet…but they are most fun to cover on guitar. I love learning his music.
for his daughter Pieta Brown.
The pride of Iowa!
I didn’t know Greg Brown until friends from Iowa gave me a cassette of his. I thought, “Why haven’t I heard this great stuff before?” I’ve listened to that cassette so many times since then that it’s broken and nearly worn out.
