As much of a Mopar fanboy that I am. The 2.7 is a pile of garbage. Don’t let it leave a bad impression.
Good Job I have to fix my 2003 Chrysler Sebring the Mec I brought it to put a crank in and set the timing to 50 BTDC and it should be 60 BTDC after waiting 2 month for him make good and fix his mis I pull it out and it’s in my garage now I was Chrysler Mec back in the 80′s question how do you set it wrong it looks like if you set all the marks your good to go? using a video scope it looks like they bent the intake valves and only on the front head ? the pistons look good

0:56 omg blackhole on a stick!!!!!
“I drove that car around to make sure then the engine siezed up”
LMAO!!!! No offence but WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT.
Got room for mine in that shop?
It just dropped the timing chain………….UGH>
Gonna need a whole bunch of beer for that one.
Meh, the sure cure for a 2.7 if you want to keep it is to run synthetic oil in it and change it regularly… I’ve got several customers with OVER 200,000 miles on original 2.7/42LE combos. However I’ve also had more than my fair share of crap 2.7s that were rode hard and put away wet.
The way to 100% cure any Intrepid problem? Convert them to RWD and install a V8, preferably a 318 or 5.2 Magnum since they’re practically bulletproof. I know I have to update it, but check my channel for proof.

If I you I would just crush that shit and give your boss back his money. Just gonna blow again in 30k or so miles anyway.
I would just say, you know boss, STOP BUYIN INTREPIDS, Go buy a Taurus or Lumina!
when they were new, they were peices of shits!
Gosh i hate dodge intrepids. They are thow away cars. If taken care of they are reliable. Not enough to say much. Good luck MAN. Id think that i died and went to hell if two Intrepids were in my shop.
indeed I do, or at least did, now Im down to just one pile of garbage LOL
That sucks, you basically have 3 piles of garbage.
i was kidding to
Sorry just a joke I think you have to remove the tensioner then the chain goes slack I seen some videos on here that show it and I know that there is a blog type in Dodge 2.7 on intrepid this guy yanks the motor and goes through the details it pretty thorough hope that helps
thats clever
2.2 was the best motor ever. I had a rampage and that motor would not blow no matter what I did!
shotgun
yea. i can see why the torque wouldn’t be. the 5.2 was OHV…good low end torque, the 4.7 was SOHC….not so much low end torque.
how do you loosen the timing chain
Don’t know anything about these engines but I assume the 2.7L has better fuel economy than the 3.5, so that might be why they switched to it.
Thanks to the CAFE requirements, the manufacturers will do anything to gain 1mpg, even if the consumer likes the old setup better.
Reminds me of when Dodge brought out the 4.7L to replace the old 318 (5.2). They claimed the same peak hp so people would think they’re the “same”, but the torque curve wasn’t even close.

i have three words for ya: three point five
yeah those r terrible
ooh been a long time since we got rid of ours… valve or ignition timing
can u tell me how to time a 9n ford?
well Im no dodge expert but they had a 2.0 2.2 and 2.5L four cylinders… the v-6 that you speak of like the one that was in marcus stratus (strapon) was a 2.5L v-6 this was to te best of my knowledge the predecessor to the 2.7L and was a raging pile of donkey dung…some one feel free to correct me if Im wrong
